Whether or not youre an anime fan, there are some fantastic anime movies out there any film enthusiast or anyone who just enjoys movies would appreciate. Some you may know, while others may seem a little more obscure.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nIn advance dont let the MAL (Myanimelist) rank fool you on any of these. Though some rank quite highly for obvious reasons, some of the movies on this list are a little obscure and as a result, never quite ranked as highly with their cult film status.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nOnly featuring one Studio Ghibli film, purely for the sake of their popularity and that everyone knows about them. I wanted to include more than just the ones everyone knows, but also some more unknown movies. Heres an additional short list of Studio Ghibli films that I consider fantastic:\\\\\\\\nGrave of the Fireflies (1988)\\\\\\\\nMy Neighbour Totoro (1988)\\\\\\\\nKikis Delivery Service (1989)\\\\\\\\nPrincess Mononoke (1997)\\\\\\\\nHowls Moving Castle (2004)\\\\\\\\nThe Cat Returns (2005)\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nIn addition to Studio Ghibli movies, heres a very short list of movies that I just havent included on this list, but still are must-watch anime movies:\\\\\\\\nGhost in the Shell (1995)The Light of a Firefly Forest (2011) \\\\\\\\nFive Centimetres Per Second (2007) (If you want to count it as a movie).\\\\\\\\nDisclaimer! Do note, this is only my opinion, and like all opinions, we all have our own. Whether or not theres something you agree\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\/disagree with, its wiser to be respectful of anyones opinions. Granted, there may be some glaringly obvious ones that Ive missed, so do let me know if there are any.\\\\\\\\nSpirited Away (2003)Once you do something, you never forget. Even if you cant remember.\\\\\\\\nFrom the get-go, its quite understandable how Spirited Away is recognised as one of, if not the most celebrated anime movie to come out ever. Brought to you by the genius that was Hayao Miyazaki, its not hard to become so entranced and encapsulated, intrigued and curious in the world that is made in Spirited Away.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nIts the story of Chihiro, a ten-year old girl who, along with her parents, find what they believe to be an abandoned amusement park. Chihiro goes to explore this amusement park, and when she comes back, she finds both her parents have turned into pigs. In addition, the presumed abandoned theme park is actually a town inhabited by ghosts. In the centre of this town lies the bathhouse that Chihiro ventures towards in hopes of turning her parents back to the way they were.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nWonderfully animated for its time (even holding a candle up to todays standards), the bombardment of colour, interesting character designs and beautiful settings and backdrops bring a tint of life into every scene. There arent many films that can even compare with how imaginatively designed everything is and how well the animation sets the scene and creates a realm where adventure captivates the audience with ease.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nNot just a feast for the eyes, adults can appreciate the complex storyline, educational experience into Japanese history and culture and deeper themes featured in Spirited Away while the quirky characters, fantastic music as well as memorable moments, be they sombre, funny, tense or inspirational, watching it once just wouldnt feel like enough.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nNo doubt, a common favourite of many film goers, anime fan or not.\\\\\\\\nMakes me jealous\\\\\\\\nIm going to talk about this one in particular a little more than anime anime sub indo - nekonime.com the others. If context were ever necessary for any anime movie, this might just be the cup holder. To truly grasp an understanding of this movie, youd have to be familiar with the anime show.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nFor those who dont know of the anime TV series, it follows the misadventures of Haurhis makeshift club called the SOS Brigade. In addition to Haruhi, members of the SOS Brigade include the cute and irresistible Mikuru Asahina (a time traveller), the mysterious transfer student Itsuki Koizumi (an esper), the heavily introverted Yuki Nagato (an alien), and the sarcastic, face-palming Kyon (an ordinary human really). The story revolves around the members attempts at keeping Haruhi from unconsciously destroying the world and realising her godlike powers along with maintaining the secrecy of their hidden identities by faithfully blending in to the rest of the world as ordinary people (except Kyon, of course).\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nAt first, it was hard to dislike Haruhi and her misadventures whilst the unwilling, yet omnipresent, Kyon shadowed her every move with his hand firmly glued to his forehead. Very fun to watch, exciting and interesting with every character having their moments to shine, it was no surprise as to the popularity of Haruhi and co.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nThe second season suffered from something I like to call being shit for their inclusion of what was arguably the most frustrating episode arcs to have ever come out of any anime ever by basically repeating the same episode eight times with minor differences (The Endless Eight). Though the remaining six episodes of that season werent too bad, the damage dealt by The Endless Eight arc was too severe to rise it from the ashes of the grave.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nAnd yet, after everything the second season put me through, after all the anger and the rage, the betrayal, I couldnt help but feel happy I watched it. For if I didnt watch it, I wouldnt be able to fully appreciate what was one of the greatest anime movies ever put to the big screen.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nThe story diverges from the anime in a sense that whilst the anime focuses on the crazy settings and cringing tasks Haruhi leads her brigade blindly through, the movie introduces Kyon in a world where Haruhi and the SOS Brigade never came to be. Without his supernatural friends by his side or the pseudo-deity sitting behind him, Kyon is thrusted into vulnerability after it dawns on him that he may be stuck in a world where he has to live an ordinary life.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nEven if you disliked the series or had mixed feelings by the end of it like I did, theres so much about this movie to like from the flawless animation, musical choices, direction, voice acting (kudos to the English dub voice actors there), progressive character development that the anime held as only a secondary objective, and all-round brilliance of this picture. There really is too much to talk about for this movie that puts it on an entirely different pedestal to the anime. Darker, grittier, morally questioning, the change and the journey that the characters go through accumulates to an absolute masterpiece of a movie.\\\\\\\\nWelcome to the Space Show (2013)Id like to thank you for everything youve done. Ill take you to the moon!\\\\\\\\nRelatively unknown to a lot of people, this is where the opinions of many others diverge. This movie would probably be most relevant if someone were to bring up anime movies being underrated, hence the mention on this list. Though not critically devastated, this movie has caught me off guard on simply how much I enjoyed it.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nIf there was ever a movie that plastered a smile on my face for its entirety, it would be Welcome to the Space Show. Easily one of the most fun things to watch of any kind of medium, not just anime, Welcome to the Space Show is the kind of adventure youd wish to be a part of. Very few movies can rival how fun and whimsical Welcome to the Space Show can get, if there was any competition.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nWelcome the Space Show features the five schoolchildren during their summer vacation when they find an injured dog-like alien, who, in return for their troubles in nursing him back to health, reward them by taking them to futuristic city located on the other side of the moon. Events take place and calamity ensues when they find themselves unable to get back to Earth.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nPut in simpler terms, its a strange, lovable combination of The Adventures of Rick and Morty, Spirited Away with elements of Star Wars and other sci-fi movies and TV shows.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nA well-orchestrated blend of sci-fi, adventure, fantasy and slice of life, Welcome to the Space Show doesnt fail on the essentials for a good movie. Though the themes and story become a lot more complex and darker towards the latter half, its the development of sibling love that overrides any message in this story. Powerful and laugh-out-loud funny at times, Welcome the Space Show is the culmination of what incredible imagination and great story-telling can achieve.\\\\\\\\nWolf Children (2013)Why is the wolf always the bad guyh\\\\\\\\nIf Welcome to the Space Show provided the adventure, Wolf Children is definitely where the feels are at.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nIts the story of the mother who marries a man who happens to be half-wolf. They have two children together, but after he dies, she is left to raise her two children (who also just so happen to be half wolf) as a single mother. Having the ability to turn from wolf to human and back again in a moments notice, the mother is made to be wary of her two children who have little control over their abilities\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nThe struggles of being a single mother with two young children are featured greatly, emphasising the sacrifices, trials and tribulations the mother encounters on her journey in raising her two children and caring for them. Just about any parent, mother or father, would understand and relate to the story Wolf Children conveys; the decisions you make in allowing your child to live to the fullest, do what they want to do, but also protect them against anything they may hurt them.\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\nWonderfully animated with an inspiring, heartfelt score to boot, Wolf Children will probably inspire emotions you never thought you had. Truly heart-warming, and as long as you ignore or dismiss the subtle tones of bestiality, you should enjoy this as much as any reviewer or critic loved it.\\\\\\\\n \\\\\\\"\\\"\"
